Fox News Triumphs Over The View in Ratings

Faulkner, 59, celebrated a milestone in January when her program The Faulkner Focus beat The View in viewership for the first time by over 40,000 viewers. Riding that momentum, she didn’t hold back in criticizing the ABC talk show.

The View is all shouting, cursing, and doing whatever it takes to grab attention on hot topics,” Faulkner told the Daily Mail. “The show used to have powerhouse journalists like Barbara Walters, but now it’s just talk, talk, talk—and a lot of combativeness and vitriol.”

A Personal Clash with Sunny Hostin

Faulkner called out Hostin by name for what she described as aggressive and hurtful behavior. The Fox anchor opened up about a tense moment from her 2018 visit to The View to promote her book.

“I’ve seen Sunny Hostin apologize on air multiple times for legal reasons related to things said on the show,” Faulkner said. “That’s dicey.”

During that 2018 episode, Hostin, who is Black and Puerto Rican, reportedly made pointed remarks about Faulkner’s marriage to Tony Berlin, a white media professional. Faulkner, who is Black, said Hostin “came after me,” turning the conversation toward race while a large photo of Faulkner’s biracial children was displayed behind her.

“I knew my kids would be watching,” Faulkner said, describing it as a painful experience.

Faulkner and Berlin have two daughters, Bella (born 2006) and Danika (born 2009).

Thankfully, Whoopi Goldberg, then a co-host on The View, stepped in to steer the conversation back to Faulkner’s book.Fox News host Harris Faulkner shares fears for her two daughters and admits she's 'worried' as milestone nears | The US Sun

Faulkner Highlights Differences Between Fox News and The View

Faulkner praised Fox News’ “superpower” of live broadcasting compared to The View, which is pre-recorded. She also emphasized the importance of featuring guests with diverse perspectives.

“I think that’s difficult if you only see the world myopically,” she said, criticizing The View for what she perceives as predominantly left-wing shouting, even if differing opinions appear occasionally.

Revisiting the 2018 Appearance

Video from the 2018 episode shows Hostin questioning Faulkner about her sense of responsibility to the Black community. Faulkner responded, “I feel a responsibility to everyone,” which received applause from the audience.

She then talked about raising her biracial daughters and being one of the few Black women anchoring on Fox News.

Faulkner’s Longstanding Career at Fox News

Faulkner joined Fox News in 2005 and currently hosts The Faulkner Focus as well as Outnumbered, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Her recent success in ratings, with The Faulkner Focus averaging 2.55 million viewers in January compared to The View’s 2.51 million, marks a significant upset in the daytime talk show battle.

What’s Next?

Faulkner’s candid reflections and her show’s rising ratings suggest the competition between Fox News and ABC’s The View will only heat up from here. For Faulkner, it’s clear that her personal experiences and approach to journalism continue to resonate strongly with viewers.
