Cleveland Browns Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders Faces Legal Trouble with Multiple Traffic Violations

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has recently come under scrutiny after police records revealed he received two traffic citations and failed to appear in court.

According to documents obtained by Cleveland.com, Sanders was pulled over on Tuesday in Strongsville, Ohio, for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph speed zone. Additionally, Medina Municipal Court records indicate that Sanders had a prior stop by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Medina, which was recorded on June 6.

Further records show that Sanders missed his arraignment scheduled for June 13 related to the initial traffic offense.

Browns spokesperson Peter John-Baptiste assured reporters, “He is addressing the tickets.”

Sanders, a standout from Colorado, entered the 2025 NFL Draft with expectations to be a first-round pick. However, he was selected in the fifth round, 144th overall, by the Browns. His draft stock reportedly fell after the New York Giants traded up to select Jaxson Dart, and other quarterbacks such as Tyler Shough, Jalen Milroe, and Dillon Gabriel were also chosen before him. Notably, Gabriel was also drafted by Cleveland.

Concerns about Sanders’ character have circulated since the draft process began. An anonymous assistant coach described Sanders’ interview as “the worst formal interview I’ve ever experienced,” citing entitlement, poor decision-making on the field, negative body language, and blaming teammates. A long-time NFL executive similarly commented that Sanders seemed difficult to work with and appeared to want to control situations.

CBS analyst Ross Tucker also recalled that Sanders missed a scheduled media meeting prior to a game against Colorado State. Initially postponed due to injury treatment, Sanders ultimately did not attend the rescheduled interview, sparking further questions about his professionalism.

Despite these issues, Sanders expressed gratitude on social media shortly after being drafted, posting a brief but emotional message: “Thank you GOD.”

Sanders, son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is among several quarterbacks competing for the Browns’ starting position. Alongside veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, Sanders faces a challenging battle for playing time. Meanwhile, Deshaun Watson aims to return from injury but his availability remains uncertain.
