After 16 years on air, The Project is coming to an end, with Network 10 officially confirming the decision to cancel the popular panel show earlier that day, following rumors that surfaced on Friday.

The episode opened with Waleed Aly, Steve Price, Sarah Harris, and Sam Taunton visibly tense as they reflected on their time with the program and shared their reactions to the news.

“Sixteen years is a remarkable run for any television show, and so many people have been a part of it,” Aly said.

He went on to give a shout-out to the crew behind the scenes: “Kim, who’s running Camera Three, is doing a fantastic job, as always. This is how things go sometimes. We want to send a huge thank you to our incredible viewers.”

“We’re not saying goodbye just yet,” Aly continued. “You’ll still see us over the coming weeks, but everyone who has worked on this show knows you’re the best audience in Australia. It’s truly been an honor to serve you.”The panel appeared noticeably more tense than usual as they addressed the elephant in the room. Picture: 10

Sarah Harris, clearly emotional, expressed her deep gratitude for being part of such a longstanding Australian television institution.

“I’m so thankful I got to sit at this desk and be a part of this with all of you,” she said. “It’s been such a rewarding experience, but a show isn’t just about the people on camera. The Project is made by the entire team behind the scenes.”

She added, “The real heroes are the producers, editors, camera operators, floor crew, control room staff, directors, and the hair and makeup teams — all those who work tirelessly, six nights a week, to bring the show to life every night.”
