Louisiana State Senator Blake Miguez Launches U.S. Senate Bid, Takes Direct Aim at Incumbent Bill Cassidy

Louisiana state Senator Blake Miguez officially announced his bid for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, launching a fiery campaign that openly challenges incumbent Republican Senator Bill Cassidy. In a bold campaign video shared on social media, Miguez did not mince words, declaring, “I’m running for the U.S. Senate because Bill Cassidy sucks.”GOP Louisiana state senator says he's running for US Senate because incumbent Republican 'sucks'

The video features archival footage of Cassidy, highlighting the senator’s controversial vote to convict former President Donald Trump in the aftermath of the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot. Although the House impeached Trump during his term, Cassidy’s Senate vote to convict came after Trump had left office — ultimately failing to meet the required threshold for conviction.

In his announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Miguez framed his campaign as a fight for the “American Dream” and a rejection of what he calls “D.C. phonies.” He accused Cassidy of betraying Louisiana, President Trump, and core conservative principles.

“As your next Senator, I won’t bend. I won’t break. I’ll stand with President Trump. And I’ll never stop fighting to put America First. Bill Cassidy had his shot. He missed. I won’t,” Miguez said in his post.

The Louisiana lawmaker’s declaration underscores a growing divide within the Republican Party, as staunch Trump loyalists challenge incumbents perceived as less loyal or insufficiently aligned with the former president.

Cassidy Campaign Responds Confidently

In response, Cassidy’s campaign dismissed Miguez’s challenge as unlikely to alter the race’s outcome. Cassidy’s press secretary, Ashley Bosch, told Fox News Digital, “Anyone can join this race, but it won’t change the outcome — Senator Cassidy will win.”

Bosch highlighted Cassidy’s conservative credentials and alignment with President Trump’s agenda, emphasizing his work on key issues such as border security, energy independence, and protecting Louisiana’s values.

“He’s a proven conservative fighting alongside President Trump to secure our southern border, unleash American energy, and put America First. Senator Cassidy is fighting to protect our values and delivering real results for Louisiana,” Bosch said.

The Stakes in Louisiana’s Republican Primary

Louisiana’s Senate seat has become a focal point for Republican intra-party contests, especially given Cassidy’s vote during the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump — a move that has drawn ire from Trump supporters and loyalists like Miguez.

The campaign promises a fierce primary battle, with Miguez positioning himself as the true champion of Trump’s base, vowing unwavering loyalty and aggressive opposition to Cassidy’s record.

As the race heats up, all eyes will be on Louisiana voters to see whether Cassidy’s incumbency and record will withstand the challenge from a rising state legislator with strong grassroots appeal.
