Jennifer Garner Opens Up About Botox, Aging Gracefully, and Why She’s Thankful for Every Wrinkle

Jennifer Garner, one of Hollywood’s most down-to-earth stars, is once again reminding us why she’s beloved by fans of all ages. In a refreshingly candid interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 53-year-old actress shared her personal thoughts on beauty, aging, plastic surgery—and why Botox just doesn’t work for her.

“I don’t do a ton,” Garner said about her experience with injectables. “Botox doesn’t work very well for me; that’s why I wear bangs a lot.”

That signature self-deprecating wit was on full display as she added, “I have, like, a five-head,” laughing off her experience while gently nudging audiences to embrace aging with a bit of humor.

“I Like to Move My Forehead”

For Garner, movement is life—especially when it comes to facial expressions.

“I like to be able to move my forehead, and it’s such a big part of my face,” she explained. For an actress whose charm often lies in her expressive face and emotional depth, it’s no surprise that freezing those muscles just doesn’t feel right.

Though she’s dabbled in Botox, Garner admits it’s not her thing. “As far as injectables go, I think just find somebody fantastic and proceed with caution.”Did Jennifer Garner Get Plastic Surgery? Transformation Photos | Life & Style

No Shame, No Pressure—Just Thoughtful Choices

Garner made it clear that she doesn’t judge anyone who chooses to go under the knife or get a little help from a syringe. She’s even asked the question herself: “Do I need to do this?”

Her doctors, she shared, have always given her honest and encouraging advice: “No.”

That doesn’t mean she’s ruled it out forever. “God only knows 10 years from now what the conversation will be. I’m not there yet.”

Sunscreen Over Surgery

Rather than turn to cosmetic procedures, Garner credits her youthful appearance to a much simpler secret: sunscreen.

“As someone who was not a sunbather in my 20s—I just didn’t have that patience—I luckily did wear sunscreen,” she said. “And I’m grateful for it now that I’m in my 50s.”

It’s a habit she’s kept up over the years, and it’s paid off. “The products have only gotten better every single year.”

A Mirror Isn’t Her Best Friend

When asked if there’s a part of her appearance she’s come to appreciate more over time, Garner offered a surprisingly honest take.

“I haven’t spent a lot of time stressing about my physical appearance,” she said. “I don’t spend a lot of time in the mirror.”

In fact, she joked, that might not always be a good thing: “I’m sure I’ve had things in my teeth or a bump in my hair. There are pluses and minuses to it.”

Fans who’ve followed her career—or just seen her candid paparazzi shots—know she’s always maintained an authentic, no-fuss style. “If you look through, like, the last 20-plus years of paparazzi pictures of me, you would say, ‘You would be best served by spending more time thinking about what you look like,’” she laughed.

But she’s not worried. “I’m not really that stressed about aging or things changing.”Jennifer Garner admits Botox 'doesn't work very well' for her as she shares cautious approach to injectables

“I Want to Age. I Want to Live to Be 100.”

In a moment of pure clarity, Garner summed up her outlook on aging:

“I want to age. I want to live to be 100. I don’t expect to look at 100 like I look today. I want to wear every single bit of those 100 years and feel great about them.”

It’s a powerful reminder in an age of filtered selfies and endless cosmetic enhancements that living—and living fully—is far more important than appearing ageless.

A Woman at Peace With Her Age

Garner says she doesn’t wish to be younger. In fact, she’s “very grateful” for her age.

“I feel like I’m living in my power. I’m living in my wisdom. I’m living in my joy and my capacity to do and get things done.”

She knows she’s lucky. And she’s taking none of it for granted.

Words of Wisdom for the Next Generation

Garner has long used her platform to encourage young women to take a cautious approach to cosmetic enhancements. In a 2022 interview with Elle, she said:

“Be very, very incredibly judicious and wait as absolutely long as possible to add anything. Don’t think that you’re 37 and you need to be shooting up your face.”

Her message is simple but powerful: You don’t need to fight aging—you just need to live well through it.
