A “Weekend Update” segment on SNL this weekend left cast members visibly shocked after a call and response moment quickly turned south.
SNL’s live studio audience hilariously surprised cast members during a spontaneous interaction in the most recent episode.
It happened during the “Weekend Update” segment when SNL ensemble member Ego Nwodim ridiculed the White House Correspondents’ Association for dropping comedian Amber Ruffin as the headliner for the correspondents’ dinner on April 26.
Nwodim appeared on Weekend Update as a stand-up persona named “Ms. Eggy,” proving she’d be a worthy replacement for the dropped headliner, who had criticized Republican President Donald Trump’s administration on a podcast.
Ms. Eggy demonstrated her comedic chops for the studio audience, at one point roasting political figures like Democratic New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, who made history on April 1, 2025, for giving the longest speech on the Senate floor at just over 25 hours.
Nwodim’s alter ego quipped:
“Cory Booker out here with his filibuster—shoot, I’ve had my fill of busters.”
She then pointed the mic towards the audience and asked, “…Cuz, these men ain’t what?”
Without missing a beat, the crowd shouted back in unison, “Sh*t!”
Here is an uncensored clip.
Nwodim was visibly taken aback but stayed in character and responded with:
“We finna get fined for that.”
She referenced SNL creator Lorne Michaels, adding:
“Y’all gonna have to pay for that. Lorne’s gonna be mad at y’all,”
Meanwhile, “Weekend” co-hosts Colin Jost and Michael appeared dumbfounded and face-palmed, laughing over the fact that the live viewers went there.
The internet thought there was no other answer.

The audience praised Nwodim’s dedicated character performance.
The White House Correspondents’ Association announced it would no longer host a comedian, citing its goal to avoid focusing on “politics of division.”
In February, they had announced Ruffin, who became the first Black woman to write for a late-night talk show when she became a writer for Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2014, to host the correspondents’ dinner.
She was dropped after facing backlash for comments made in late March on The Daily Beast podcast, criticizing Republican President Donald Trump’s administration.
During the podcast, Ruffin said she had no intentions of slamming “both sides” of the political aisle with her jokes at the event, stating, “I care. Like, you’re kind of a bunch of murderers.”
“It’s bonkers that we’re still acting like things are normal,” she added.
