Following the outage, Musk acknowledged the cyberthreat, posting on X: “We get attacked every day. There was a massive cyber attack to try to bring down the X system with IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area.”

However, cybersecurity experts note that hackers frequently manipulate their IP addresses. making it nearly impossible to trace the attack’s true origin.

Visitors to the site were greeted with mocking messages including, “This is a joke of a .gov site” and “THESE EXPERTS LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN.”

The breach raised questions about the security of digital infrastructure tied to Musk, even on governmental platforms.

A joint statement from the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) confirmed:

“The U.S. Government is investigating the unauthorized access to commercial telecommunications infrastructure by actors affiliated with the People’s Republic of China.”

This series of cyberattacks appears to coincide with increasing political unrest and widespread protests against the current U.S. administration.
