It’s the season of proposals and rumors around the Montreal Canadiens, but Mason McTavish’s name is coming up more often than others.

Let’s first quickly recall that Kent Hughes mentioned he is willing to pay more for a young, established player rather than overpay for an unrestricted free agent.

Let’s also remember that Jeff Gorton outright said that the offer sheet route is an option being considered by the Montreal Canadiens.

An Offer Sheet Proposal Involving Mason McTavish and the Montreal Canadiens

McTavish, who is clearly on his way to becoming an NHL star player, has been a name that has come up frequently in Montreal over the past few months.

And now, a former player agent has just put forth a concrete proposal.

On BPM Sports radio, David Ettedgui suggested that the Montreal Canadiens submit an offer sheet of 7 years, at $9.2 million per season, to Mason McTavish.

We’re talking here about a true, quality second-line center, and an ideal second-line center to pair with a young talent like Ivan Demidov.

If Anaheim refuses to match, the Habs would have to give up two first-round picks, one second-round pick, and one third-round pick as compensation.

Ettedgui believes it would absolutely be worth it.

At $9.2 million per year, I take Mason McTavish hands down. In three years, he’s going to be a bargain.

A bargain!

David Ettedgui

And you, do you like the idea?

McTavish, 22 years old, recorded 52 points in 76 games this season, and was clearly the Ducks’ best player in the second half of the season.

The previous season, this 3rd overall pick from 2021 tallied 42 points in 64 games.
