Rod Brind’Amour goes ballistic over a blown call late in the second period of Game 3.

Boy oh boy was Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour ever furious with National Hockey League referees Dan O’Rourke and Francois St. Laurent after this call late in the second period of Game 3.

Things are going well for the Hurricanes through the first 40 minutes of play with Brind’Amour’s team leading Game 3 over the Washington Capitals by a score of 2-0 after two periods, but you wouldn’t know it based on his reaction at the end of the second period.

Brind’Amour’s Hurricanes were called for a high stick late in the second frame with Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal being the man charged with the infraction after his stick appeared to take out Capitals defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk after a stoppage in play. Unfortunately the call on the ice was only a 2 minute minor, which is not subject to official review, otherwise that call definitely would not have stayed as it was.

The video replay clearly showed that it had actually been Pierre-Luc Dubois, Trevor van Riemsdyk’s own teammate, that had been responsible for the high stick on the play. Once the video evidence was shown to the fans at the Lenovo Center in Raleigh the building exploded with outrage, but even that paled in comparison to the explosion we saw from the Hurricanes head coach.

The officials came over to the bench and pleaded their case with Brind’Amour but that only set him off even worse, adding fuel to the proverbial fire so to speak.
