The offer sheet situation is getting a lot of buzz in the NHL and around the Montreal Canadiens.

It’s practically unheard of, but offer sheet rumors have become almost more popular than trade rumors over the past few weeks.

Names like Mason McTavish and Matthew Knies have been circulating quite a bit in this context.

Will Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton dare to take the plunge?

One thing’s for sure, it’s an option for them.

But there’s another interesting point to note, which could further encourage the Canadiens to submit an offer sheet as soon as this summer.

Kent Hughes and the Canadiens can submit an offer sheet without any risk of consequences, revenge, or retaliation

Here’s Marco D’Amico’s explanation:

“One thing to keep into consideration, should the Canadiens ever consider going to offer sheet way:

There isn’t one core player that could become a revenge target for another team.

Lane Hutson and Ivan Demidov are both ineligible to receive offer sheets in 2026 and 2027.”

Interesting!

Kent Hughes played his cards well!

There’s also an update regarding the compensation tiers.

Elliotte Friedman discusses it in his article, but it will be very interesting to see if a team follows the Edmonton Oilers’ lead this summer and takes action.

And you, do you think Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton should try an offer sheet this summer?

And if so, who would be your target?
