Dodgers put up a season-high 15 runs to secure a series win over the Marlins and extend their winning streak to four games.

The Dodgers followed up their walk-off win on Monday with an offensive explosion to win 15-2 and take the series against the Miami Marlins.

The Dodgers used a bullpen game against Miami, with rookie southpaw Jack Dreyer making his first career big league start. 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara got the start for the Marlins, having struggled through his first five starts with a 6.56 ERA.

Miami got the scoring starting early with a leadoff triple from the speedy Xavier Edwards and an RBI single from Dane Myers, his fifth RBI over his past three at-bats. The Dodgers responded right back on the first pitch of the game, as Shohei Ohtani connected for his first home run as a new dad, rocketing a 114.1 mile per hour line drive into the visitor’s bullpen.

A pair of doubles from Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernández helped give the Dodgers an early lead, and a Tommy Edman sacrifice fly gave the Dodgers a three-spot in the first inning.

Dreyer managed to secure a perfect second inning while picking up two strikeouts, ending his line having allowed just one run while striking out three to give way for Matt Sauer, who was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City, to handle the lion’s share of work for the bullpen.

Sauer’s previous career high in innings was 2 13 coming against the Baltimore Orioles last season when he was with Kansas City. Sauer tossed a career-high five innings, with the only blemish on his final line being an RBI single from Ronny Simón. Sauer tossed 78 pitches with 55 of them going for strikes, racking up four strikeouts while the Dodgers’ offense did the rest of the work, helping the right-hander secure his first major league victory.

The Dodgers chased Alcantara out of the game after an RBI single from Andy Pages and a two-run single from Mookie Betts increased the Dodger lead to six. Alcantara’s return from injury has been disastrous to begin the season, as the two time All-Star now has an 8.31 ERA on the season while striking out 19 and walking 17 over 26 innings through six starts.

The Dodgers were blanked by right-hander Tyler Phillips before erupting for a four-run sixth inning against reliever George Soriano, thanks in part to two two-run doubles from Will Smith and Tommy Edman. The Dodgers added another four-run inning in the eighth against position player Javier Sanoja, giving the Dodgers a season high 15 runs.

Teoscar Hernández continued his amazing month of April with a four-hit, four RBI performance that now has him at the top of the RBI leaderboard with 31. Andy Pages extended his hit streak to seven games with a two-hit performance, including his fourth home run over his past seven games.

As if this game couldn’t get any more wacky, Kiké Hernández came into relief for the top of the ninth inning, blowing hitters away with his 37 mile per hour eephus while sporting the lower half of a batting helmet fixed over the brim of his cap. Hernández tossed a scoreless ninth inning, now lowering his career ERA to 7.94 over 5 23 innings.

The Dodgers have been displaying their speed on the base paths more than ever this season in the two games against Miami. The Dodgers entered the series ranked 28th in the league for team stolen bases with 13. They have stolen seven bases this week alone.

The Dodgers are once again in sole possession of first place in the NL West and have joined the New York Mets as the only two teams to reach at least 20 wins on the year.
