Dodgers Release Chris Taylor, Place Kirby Yates on IL, Bring Back Tommy Edman in Massive Roster Moves

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a couple major roster moves ahead of Sunday’s series finale with the Los Angeles Angels.Ezoic

First, the Dodgers released Chris Taylor and activated Tommy Edman off the injured list. Then, they placed Kirby Yates on the injured list with a right hamstring strain and selected the contract of Lou Trivino.

Now, the Dodgers have parted ways with both Taylor and Austin Barnes in a matter of days. The message becomes increasingly clear that the defending champions are focused on winning, and winning only. While it’s certainly sad to see veterans leave the clubhouse, neither Taylor nor Barnes were producing up to par.Ezoic

This season, Taylor was slashing .200/.200/.257 with two runs batted in and an OPS of .457 across 28 games.

As for Yates, the reliever left Saturday’s 11-9 loss to the Angels after 23 pitches in the seventh inning due to hamstring tightness. Manager Dave Roberts said postgame that an IL stint was very likely for Yates.

The Dodgers bullpen currently leads the league in innings, and the latest injury to a reliever does not bode well for turning things around.

Edman will be in Sunday’s lineup and play at centerfield upon his return. The Dodgers star was sidelined by an ankle injury, and his recovery was slower than expected.

Nevertheless, the Dodgers will get one of their best hitters back in the lineup for the series finale against the Halos.
