The Vegas Golden Knights may have just suffered a terrible blow to their playoff hopes.
Although there has been no official word as of yet, it appears as though Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone has been injured in an incident that appears to have been a fluke accident. Stone was caught up high after he fell to the ice and collided with Edmonton Oilers forward Corey Perry who was pivoting on the ice and didn’t appear to notice Stone at all.
Update: The Golden Knights have confirmed Stone will not return.
Perry’s leg and/or knee would collide directly with Stone’s head and, although Stone did quickly bounce back up and even attempted to play the puck, it quickly became apparent that something was wrong. Stone began clutching at his head and quickly headed off the ice, not playing at all in the final 6 minutes and 20 seconds of the first period. Stone eventually left the bench before the end of the period, heading back into the Golden Knights locker room for treatment.
Stone has not returned for the second period.

This incident is eerily reminiscent of an incident that resulted in a serious injury to Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares, an incident in which Perry, who was playing for the Montreal Canadiens at the time, collided with Tavares in a very similar fashion.
