A very long review ends with a controversial call in Game 3 on Sunday.

We will no doubt be hearing about this review for quite some time.

On Sunday, Game 3 of the second round series between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets came to a grinding halt when, during the game’s third period, a controversial goal would result in a 7 minute review. It was an incredibly lengthy review in the middle of a playoff game, so much so that several players came back out onto the ice during the review itself to keep their bodies in motion.

There was no question that the puck had found its way into the back of the net but the issue stemmed from the fact that Dallas Stars defenseman Alexander Petrovic had helped it get there with a very clear kicking motion towards the net. Petrovic however had not been the last player to touch the puck, with the officials on the ice determining that Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck had put the puck in his own net.

Now this was going to be a controversial ruling either way as it was clear even the National Hockey League itself was struggling to reach the right decision here, as evidenced by the 7 minute game-stalling review, and unfortunately for the Jets they would come out on the wrong end of this one.
