The Indiana Fever have announced the signing of Aari McDonald following her strange behavior toward Caitlin Clark.

Rockies vs. Marlins Highlights

The team made the revelation on Monday morning, letting fans know McDonald would be joining them on an emergency hardship extension, given injuries to Clark, Sophie Cunningham and Sydney Colson.

“The Indiana Fever has announced the signing of guard Aari (AIR-ee) McDonald via emergency hardship exception,” the team announced. “The WNBA emergency hardship exception allows any team to sign a player, with immediate effect, if a team drops below 10 game-eligible players at any time.”

Clark is dealing with a quadriceps strain that will keep her out until at least June 9, while Cunningham and Colson were injured in the Fever’s loss to the Connecticut Sun on Friday.

The injuries left the team with just two available guards, Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull, so McDonald’s signing makes sense. However, she has gone viral again for bizarrely trying to mark the former Iowa star while shooting free throws.

McDonald spent last season with the Los Angeles Sparks, averaging 8.7 points per game for the team across 26 appearances.

The 26-year-old was drafted second overall by the Atlanta Dream in 2021, making the WNBA All-Rookie Team after putting up 6.3 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.6 rebounds per contest. She helped the Dream qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2018 in 2023.

The Fever were down to just eight healthy players and even had an open spot on their roster at the beginning of the season because of salary cap restrictions.

Cunningham sustained a right ankle injury on Friday, while Colson suffered a left leg injury.

Head coach Stephanie White has since revealed that their MRIs were encouraging, though they are considered day-to-day.
