Damian Lillard is already working toward recovery. Just weeks after tearing his left Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the Bucks’ playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, the all-star guard began early-stage rehab and says he feels “encouraged” by the process.

The injury occurred on April 27 at Fiserv Forum, just as Lillard was making his third appearance since returning from a blood clot in his right calf. Chasing an offensive rebound in the first quarter, Lillard’s leg got damaged. He collapsed, grabbing his left lower leg. He took the help of his teammates and staff to the locker room. After he confirmed that he tore his Achilles, “It’s not very promising,” head coach Doc Rivers admitted after game 4.  “I knew it right away. Yeah. I feel bad for him.” (Via- Milwaukee Journal)

Lillard’s injury ended a difficult second season in Milwaukee. Off the court, he went through a divorce and had to adjust to being away from his children. On the court, he dealt with several injuries, including oblique and Achilles strains, a concussion, and a blood clot. Despite all that, he helped the Bucks win the NBA Cup and earned MVP of the 2024 All-Star Game.

“I always had respect for Dame before we became teammates, but now my respect level is much higher. I respect him, man. I respect him a lot.” Giannis Antetokounmpo expressed his sentiment, “he’s one of the toughest, mentally toughest guys I’ve ever been around”.(Via- Milwaukee Journal)

Lillard now begins what is typically a 9-12 month recovery process. The 34-year-old started light mobility and strength exercises, according to team officials. While Bucks did not provide a specific timeline for his return, early signs are promising. However, recently, Lillard was seen on social media walking on a treadmill.

While a return next season remains months away, the Bucks’ star appears to be approaching his most formidable challenge yet with trademark resilience. Milwaukee waits and remains hopeful that Dame Time will strike again.
