Eric Furlatt has been an NHL on-ice official since 2001, and it’s already been more than six years since he celebrated his 1,000 games in the big league.

But surely, Furlatt will not forget a small little mishap that took place during Saturday’s game featuring the Seattle Kraken and Bridgestone Arena.

Kraken forward Brandon Tanev appeared to be getting into a small exchange with Nashville defenseman Jeremy Lauzon. The small encounter quickly came to an end, however, when Furlatt inadvertently slew-footed Lauzon.

Both Furlatt and Lauzon fell to the ice. Thankfully, both got back up and avoided what could have been significant injuries. The Kraken went on to defeat the Predators by a final score of 7-2.

Players who perform slew-foots on opponents are subject to suspension. In a not-so-long-ago instant, Boston Bruins’ forward Brad Marchand was suspended three games in Nov. 2021 for a slew-foot on Vancouver Canucks’ blueliner Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

The 31-year-old Tanev is having a productive season for the NHL’s youngest franchise. The Kraken, likely to make the postseason in just their second year of existence, enter play on Monday with a 40-24-8 record.

Tanev has 15 goals and 33 points in 72 games for the Kraken, all personal bests. He has 10 games left to hit 20 goals for the first time in his career.

Lauzon started his career with the Bruins, where he spent portions of three seasons before the Kraken selected him in the 2021 Expansion Draft. Ahead of last year’s trade deadline, Lauzon was sent to the Predators for a second-round pick.
